Opposition parties in Senate boycott President's address to Parliament

Aitzaz Ahsan says PM's name should be included in Guinness World Record for his absence from Senate.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Opposition parties in Senate boycotted President Mamnoon Hussain’s address to the joint session of the Parliament on Monday.

A meeting of Senate opposition parties headed by Senator Aitzaz Ahsan held at the Parliament House.  Senators of Pakistan People Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP), Baloch National Party-Awam and PML-Quaid (PML-Q) attended the meeting.

The senators criticized Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for not attending a single session of Senate. They said that the PM did not take the Upper House of the Parliament seriously so why the senator attend President’s address to the joint session.

Meanwhile, treasury members Ahsan Iqbal, Ishaq Dar and Zahid Hamid tried to convince the opposition to attend the session but they failed.

Later, taking to media Aitzaz Ahsan said that the opposition in the Senate has reservations over the performance of the PM.

He said that Nawaz Sharif is the only Prime Minister in the world who did not attend any session of Senate for a single moment during the whole parliamentary year.

The PPP leader said that Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif, who is fond of world records, should also note the performance of the PM.

Aitzaz Ahsan said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s name should be included in the Guinness World Records.
He said that the Federal Ministers including Chaudhry Nisar and Khawaja Asif often follow the PM and remain absent from the House.

He said that the Opposition parties state in the presence of media that the PM, Interior Minister and Defence Minister should come back and the opposition would not disturb them.

ANP Senator Haji Adeel said there was no better way left for the opposition to register its protest.

PPP leader Senator Raza Rabbani said that a powerless President was addressing the Parliament. He said that President Mamnoon Hussain could not pursue the government to include developmental project for his home province in the annual budget.
