Nisar, Qaim agree to continue targeted operation in Karachi
A high-level meeting was held to review law and order situation in the city.
KARACHI (Dunya News) - Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah jointly chaired a high level meeting at Chief Minister House here on Thursday to review the law and order situation and targeted operation in the city.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon, DG Rangers Major General Rizwan Akhrar, IGP Sindh Shahid Nadeem Baloch and other higher officers of Rangers and police attended the meeting.
The Rangers and police officers briefed the interior minister on details of accused and action taken so far during targeted operation.
The meeting decided that the Sindh Police will be provided with special vehicles and explosive detectors to improve and enhance their capabilities to fight terrorists.
It was also decided to provide bulletproof vehicles‚ jackets and helmets to the Police urgently.
The meeting also constituted a committee to keep liaison between Federal and Provincial Governments with regard to targeted operation.
Speaking on the occasion‚ the Interior Minister said terrorist activities are posing a great risk to the nation and the Federal and Provincial Governments are on same page to deal with this menace.
He said the people who are fighting these terrorists are our heroes. He said the Rangers and Police have achieved great success in the targeted operation. He said the sacrifices they rendered while discharging their duty will never be forgotten.
He also lauded the successes of Rangers‚ Police and intelligence agencies in bringing peace to the city.
The Federal Minister asked to devise a strategy on weekly basis for the operation against terrorists.
Earlier, one-on-one meeting was held between Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at the CM House.
Both the leaders agreed to continue indiscriminate targeted operation against the miscreants in the city. They also agreed to address the reservations of Mutttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) through talks.
On the other hand, a delegation of MQM called on Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and informed him about the details of missing party workers and their extra-judicial killings.
The MQM leaders said that their party backed targeted operation against miscreants in the city. They said if any worker was accused in any crime he should be produced in the court but the law enforcers were violating the human rights.
They said that 11 workers of MQM had been killed while 45 others were still missing and there was no information about them.
The MQM leaders said that families of the missing persons were in deep grief due to disappearance of their dear ones.
They demanded the immediate release of MQM workers.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) members held a protest outside Parliament House against the disappearance, arrests and extra-judicial killings of party workers in Karachi.
