Karachi observes shutter-down strike against target killings
Tense situation prevailed in most areas of Orangi Town, Karachi.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – A shutter-down strike was observed in Karachi against the ongoing target killing in the metropolis.
The strike call, given by the religious parties, appealed transporters association and other educational institutions to support their call of strike.
According to reports, public transport remained off the road on Friday while government and private educational institutions were also closed.
Business outlets and most of the petrol pumps were seen shut while the exams scheduled for today at Karachi University were also postponed.
Meanwhile, tense situation prevailed in most areas of Orangi Town. Angry mob burnt tires and blocked the main road after which the office-goers faced difficulties in commutation.
The call was given by JUI-S leader Maulana Yousuf Shah against the killing of Mufti Usman Yar Khan.
Earlier, the Private School Management Association had said all the private schools will remain closed on Friday. Similarly, Karachi Transport Ittehad president Irshad Bukhari said vehicles will not be brought on roads due to the strike.
The Majlis Wehdatul Muslimeen (MWM) had also announced that a ‘peaceful day of mourning’ will be observed across Sindh against Mastung attack.
