Four more dengue cases confirmed in Lahore
The number of dengue affected persons mount to 58 across the province.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Four more dengue cases surfaced in the City on Monday with the positive tests of fresh patients at Mayo Hospital and Jinnah Hospital.
According to medical authorities, as many as 58 persons have become victim of dengue in the province.
The surge in the disease has been linked with the torrential rains and accumulated water following rains.
Dengue affects between 50 and 100 million people in the tropics and subtropics each year, resulting in fever, muscle and joint ache.
But it can also be fatal, developing into haemorrhagic fever and shock syndrome, which is characterised by bleeding and a loss of blood pressure.
Caused by four strains of virus spread by the mosquito Aedes aegypti, there is no vaccine -- which is why prevention methods focus on mosquito control.
It has attracted the attention of the Government of Pakistan, especially the Punjab Government since it is widespread in that particular province of the country.
As of November 2011, it had killed over 300 people and over 14,000 were infected by this mosquito-borne disease. Majority of the people infected were from Lahore.
