ECP announces re-polling on 18 polling stations of NA-5, NA-27
Women were stopped from going to going to polling stations in Nowshera and Lakki Marwat.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced re-polling on 18 polling stations of NA-5 Nowshera-I and NA-27 Lakki Marwat after reports that women were not allowed cast their votes.
By-elections in 41 national and provincial assembly constituencies concluded as per schedule on Thursday.
Women were reportedly stopped to cast their votes during by-polls in NA-5 Nowshera-I and NA 27 Lakki Marwat constituencies of national assembly in Kyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The ECP took notice of the reports and announce re-polling at nine polling stations each in NA-5 Nowshera and NA-27 Lakki Marwat constituencies. However, the ECP will announce date for re-polling in 18 polling stations in these two constituencies later.
Earlier, Peshawar High Court took the notice after the reports that in some constituencies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local Jirgas and Ulema had stopped women from casting their votes.
Taken notice of the reports, PHC Thursday ordered that election results of the constituencies where women were forced to stay away from polling process should not be announced.
