PC meeting on appointment of judges ends inconclusively

Consensus could not be reached on certain names for appointment of judges in various high courts.

 

ISLAMABAD - (Online) - Meeting of Parliamentary Committee on appointment of judges has ended inconclusively owing to non development of consensus among member of committee on certain names for appointment of judges in various high courts.

 

Committee met here under Haji Adeel in parliament house on Monday. Meeting was attended by Senator Raza Rabbani, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Raja Zafar ul Haq, Rafiq Rajana, Mehmood Virk and Arshid Laghari.

 

Committee reviewed the recommendations sent by Judicial Commission for appointment of 8 judges of Sindh High Court (SHC) including Shaukat Ali Memon, Ms Ashraf Jehan, Shah Nawaz Tariq, Abdul Malik, Nazar Akbar, Muhammad Junaid and ``Zafar Rajput and 3 judges of Balochistan High Court including Ejaz Swati, Shakil Ahmad and Muhammad Kamran as additional judges .

 

Sources said the committee could not agree on certain names in connection with their appointment as additional judges.

 

Some members sought more information about these judges and the committee summoned more details in this regard.

 

Talking to the media men after the meeting, committee chairman senator Haji Adeel said committee had ample time to consider the matter of appointment of these judges.

 

Committee needed more information which had been sought. Committee will again meet during this week and it is hoped matter will be finalized during the meeting.
