Death toll rises to 16 in toxic liquor tragedy

Sixteen people fell ill after drinking liquor on Saturday night and had been shifted to a hospital.


KARACHI (Dunya News) – At least seven more people died as a result of drinking poisonous liquor in Mehmoodabad, Karachi.

 

Earlier, eight people died after consuming toxic alcohol on weekend.

 

According to details, sixteen people fell ill after drinking liquor on Saturday night and had been shifted to a hospital. Eight of those brought in lost their lives during treatment, while the condition of seven being reported to be critical died today.

 

The name of one victim who died as a result of the toxic liquor was reported as Saqib, according to police officials.

 

Wine shops have remained closed in Karachi since four different wine shops were targeted in Karachi within an hour on August 7, leading to an increase in the sales of poisonous and harmful liquor through the black market and amateur brewers.

 

The wine shops were targeted in Khayaban-e-Muslim, Khayaban-e-Rahat, Seaview in Defence Housing Authority and near Moti Mahel in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

 

Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested two suspects involved in the sale of the toxic liquor.
