23 killed in Quetta blasts, forces clear BMC of terrorists
23 people, including DC, 4 nurses, 14 female students and 4 FC personnel killed in blasts, firing.
QUETTA (Dunya News) – Twenty three people including, fourteen female students and Deputy Commissioner Quetta Abdual Masoor Khan Kakar, 4 nurses and 4 security men died Saturday as a result of firing and two successive blasts in Quetta.
The Bolan Medical Complex has been cleared of terrorists by security forces, Quetta police chief Mir Zubair told media persons on Saturday.
The CCPO said that a suicide bomber blew him up inside the hospital, injuring staff, nurses, patients and visitors.
Security forces would launch a room-to-room search operation in the hospital, he said.
Gunmen took over parts of Bolan Medical Complex in Quetta after two bomb blasts in the city, including one that went off inside the hospital s emergency room.
At least 22 people, including Deputy Commissioner Quetta, 14 female students, 4 nurses and 4 security men were killed as a result of blats and commando operation at the Balochistan Medical Complex.
Security forces cleared the medical complex after killing the four terrorists and arresting another alive.
Four security men and four nurses were killed in the exchange of fire between the security personnel and the terrorists.
Armed men captured different sections of the hospital complex and were positioned on rooftops, said the head of police operations in Quetta.
Frontier Corps troops, and police commandos were called in after the terrorists took positions inside the hospital.
As family, friends and rescuers crowded the emergency room where the dead and wounded were taken, another blast went off in the corridor.
Deputy Commissioner of Quetta was killed in the blast and two other offials were wounded.
It was not immediately clear if the two events were related and there was no immediate claim of responsibility but militants often stage such coordinated attacks in order to target rescuers and others as they flood to the hospital.
According to initial reports, a roadside bomb installed in Barori Road area exploded when a bus carrying students and staff of Sardar Bahadar Khan Women University reached there.
The bus caught fire after the blast in which 11 female students were killed and 19 were critically injured.
Rescue teams shifted the dead and injured to the hospital.
When the Chief Secretary along with CCPO arrived at the Bolan Medical Complex another blast took place there, followed by heavy firing.
The security personnel rescued the Chief Secretary from the scene unhurt; however, DC Mansoor Kakar received bullet injures and could not survive.
Assistant Commissioner Quetta is also reported to be injured in the incident.
According to latest reports security forces have started an operation against the terrorists.
