PPPs Mehdi Shah takes oath as Gilgit-Baltistan's first CM
Syed Mehdi Shah of Pakistan Peoples Party took oath as the first Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. Caretaker Governor Qamar Zaman Kaira administered the oath.Earlier today, Mehdi Shah was elected the CM of the province unopposed. Wazir Baig and Jamil Ahmed were also elected unopposed as speaker and deputy speaker respectively. PML-Q had fielded Mirza Hussain against Syed Mehdi Shah but Hussain withdrew in favour of Syed Mehdi who then became CM unopposed. For the office of Speaker and deputy speaker, PML-Q nominated Bashir Ahmed Khan and Amna Ansari respectively but both of them withdrew in favor of PPP candidates Wazir Baig and Jamil Akhtar who also got elected unopposed. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has congratulated Syed Mehdi, Wazir Baig and Jamil Akhtar on their success.
