The young doctors had been taken into custody after a police crackdown on their protest.

 

LAHORE: The young doctors had been taken into custody after a police crackdown on their protest camp outside Services hospital on Jail Road.


The doctors who had been protesting peacefully for one week decided to take their protest to the inauguration ceremony.


Police negotiations with the young doctors were unsuccessful and a crackdown was initiated and 23 doctors were arrested after clash and torture.


After the arrests the young doctors organised a sit-in against police torture and the Punjab government on Jail Road and announced to close emergencies of all hospitals in Punjab.


Representatives of the political parties have been visiting the YDA’s hunger strike camp to express their solidarity with the young doctors.


The Punjab government released the detained doctors after seven hours.

 

It is worth mentioning here that PPP leader and Deputy Parliamentary Leader Punjab Shaukat Basra was also thrashed and beaten up by police.

 

Basra had come to express solidarity with the protesting doctors on behalf of his party. 



Talking to media, Basra said that he was severely beaten up by police at Services Hospital. He termed the incident as an act of terrorism by police at the behest of Chief Minsiter Shahbaz Sharif.

 

Basra announced that he would lodge an FIR against Shahbaz Sharif.
