US seeks land for embassy expansion: Salman Bashir

Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir said Tuesday that the United States had sought land for the expansion of its embassy in Islamabad, adding that Pakistan did not have any agreement with the US on the number of diplomats who could work in Pakistan. Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir told a meeting of the National Assemblys Standing Committee for Human Rights that the US had requested for 18.5 acre land to expand its embassy in Islamabad but no decision had been made so far; however, opinion of defence ministry and interior ministry had been called on the matter. The foreign secretary reiterated that no countrys diplomatic staff was fixed except India.
