Contempt law: Government files review petition

Government filed review petition against SCs verdict in contempt of court law case.

The petition was filed by federations lawyer Abdul Shakoor.The petitioner stated that parliament has the legislative authority. He said that contempt of court is not a matter of basic human rights due to which all petitions against the law have not qualified to be heard.The petition requested the court to review its verdict on the new law.A five-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry declared contempt of court law 2012 null and void, saying that constitution doesn’t provide immunity to anyone including president, prime minister and other ministers.
