New provinces: Presidential reference sent to NA

Presidential reference has been tabled in National Assembly for formation of new provinces.

In the session of National Assembly, Deputy Speaker said that President Asif Ali Zardari has sent reference for constitution of a commission to look into issues related to creation of South Punjab province and revival of the previous status of Bahawalpur.In a message to Speaker National Assembly, he said six-members should be nominated by the Speaker of the National Assembly‚ six by the Chairman Senate and two by Speaker of the Punjab Assembly.The commission would submit its recommendations to the government within 30 days regarding boundary of new provinces, seat adjustment of national and provincial seats on population basis, representation in Senate and seats for minorities.In the light of recommendations of the commission, special amendments would be introduced in the constitution.The MQM while appreciating the presidential message has demanded that the commission should also consider about formation of Hazara Province.
