SC to take action if FIR of Lal Masjid operation not registered

The CJP said the court will take action if the police do not register FIR of Lal Masjid operation.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed the hearing of Lal Masjid operation case.Jamia Hafsa and Wafaqul Madaris counsel Iftikhar Gilani told the court that the police was not registering an FIR against those responsible for the Lal Masjid operation. He said when Abpara Police Station is contacted it refuses to register FIR.The CJP remarked that the FIR of such a big operation should have been registered.The Deputy Attorney General in his arguments said that students of Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa attacked police on July 3, 2007 and snatched arms from Rangers and police while military was called in after police refused to launch operation.The Lawyer of victims’ heirs Advocate Tariq Asad said that the aged parents of the victims want registration of FIR not compensation.The court adjourned the hearing of the case till May 24.
