President okays 5 LHC, 3 BHC judges

The tenure of 4 additional judges extended for a period of one year

President Asif Ali Zardari Thursday approved the confirmation of five judges of Lahore High Court. They are Mr Justice Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi, Mr Justice abdus Sattar Asghar, Mr Justice Mehmood Maqbool Bajwa, Mr Justice Ameen-ud-Din Khan and Mr Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti.The tenure of LHC Additional Judges Mr Justice Ch. Muhammad Younas, Mr. Justice Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, Mr Justice Syed Muhammad Kazim Raza Shamsi and Mr Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan has also been extended for a period of one year by the President as per the advice of the Prime Minister.The President also approved the nomination of three judges of Balochistan High Court. They include Mr Justice Abdul Qadir Mengal, Mr. Justice Naeem Akhter Afghan and Mr Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar.The summary received by the president from the prime minister in this regard said that after due consideration by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan and later by the Parliamentary Committee on the Appointment of Judges in the Superior Courts, the nominations were forwarded to the Prime Minister, who in turn advised the President to accord his approval to these nominations. Accordingly, the President acting upon the advice of prime minister accorded his approval on Thursday.
