Nusrat Fateh Alis 62nd birth anniversary being observed today
The 62nd birth anniversary of Pakistans legend singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is being observed on Wednesday (today). Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was born on October 13, 1948 in Faisalabad, Pakistan in a Punjabi family. He was the fifth child and first son of Fateh Ali Khan, a musician, vocalist, instrumentalist, and Qawwal. Khans family, which included his four older sisters and his younger brother, Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan grew up in central Lyallpur. In 1979, Khan married his first cousin, Naheed (the daughter of Fateh Ali. Music lovers across the country paid tributes to this globally renowned devotional music maestro. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was primarily a singer of qawwali, the devotional music of the Sufis (a mystical tradition within Islam). He featured in Time magazines 2006 list of Asian Heroes.
