FILM director Larry Wachowski has publicly revealed that he is transgender and now goes by the name Lana in a new video promoting her movie Cloud Atlas, the upcoming sci-fi epic thats been dubbed the most ambitious film ever made.The 47-year-old film-maker, one half of the Wachowski brothers duo that also made The Matrix films, has undergone a sex change operation.Lana Wachowski made her first public appearance as a woman sporting pink dreadlocks and wearing a grey dress in a behind-the-scenes trailer for the new drama, saying, Hi, Im Lana.The video, released by Warner Bros., was posted on the iTunes Movies Trailer page on Thursday alongside the new Cloud Atlas trailer.Entertainment website Contact Music says Larry Wachowski has taken the red pill and woken up a woman. The site notes that Wachowski is the first major Hollywood director to publicly come out as transgender, although rumours have circulated about his cross-dressing since his divorce from wife Thea Bloom almost a decade ago.Deadline Hollywood wonders if its an elaborate attention-seeking stunt, writing: We all know that film-makers will go to lengths to publicise their movies.But Salon.com calls the announcement a quiet coming out party. Andrew OHehir writes that film industry insiders have known of Larrys likely trajectory toward gender reassignment for some time.OHehir suggests there was far more anticipation about Cloud Atlas than the so-directors sexuality. Lana and her brother Andy Wachowski worked alongside Run Lola Run director Tom Tykwer on the film which stars Tom Hanks, Hugh Grant, Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock and Susan Sarandon.It seems changing sex barely raises an eyebrow in Hollywood these days. Lana is just the latest celebrity to come out as transgender in recent months.Chers daughter Chastity is now known as Chaz Bono, and Warren Beatty and Annette Benings eldest child, Kathleen, recently announced he is now Steven Ira.
