US awards 155 scholarships to ADE students

The USAID Teacher Education Project has awarded 155 scholarships to ADE students.

They had been enrolled in a two-year associate degree in education (ADE) and four-year bachelor’s degree in education programs in Sindh.Together with other projects to rebuild flood-damaged schools and other education initiatives, supporting Pakistan’s goal to have qualified teachers is a significant investment in Pakistan’s future.It would be helpful to get work opportunity for the newly trained teachers, better education for students and raise Pakistan’s global competitiveness; it was noted at the event.Speaking at the award ceremony, Jo Lesser-Oltheten, Director, Education Office (USAID), said: Our shared vision is to design programs that will prepare teachers who can inform, instruct, and inspire future generations. This scholarship program is yet another expression of the US government’s long-term commitment to help build a stronger, more prosperous Pakistan.Sindh Education Secretary Mukhtar Soomro also attended the ceremony to demonstrate support for the US-Pakistan partnership in improving the overall quality of basic education.The scholarship program is being implemented by the teacher education project in close collaboration with the provincial and regional departments of education, universities, and elementary teacher education colleges.A total of 1,900 students will be awarded scholarships through this program to enroll in partner colleges and universities offering the ADE and BEd (Hons) programs across Pakistan.
