Multan: Man commits suicide after killing wife, daughter for honor
An investigation into the matter has been launched.
MULTAN (Daily Dunya) – An implacable man committed suicide after killing his wife and daughter in the name of honor in Multan.
Police officers said that suspect Khalid’s wife Sadaf and married daughter Tayyaba were employees at a private company. His daughter was living with her family after a domestic dispute with husband. Khalid was having doubt about her daughter’s illegal relation with a strange man.
However on Monday night, Khalid had a fight with his wife and daughter over which he gunned down them and committed suicide. The investigation officers said that Khalid’s elder sons were not in the house at the time of the mishap.
Moreover, an investigation into the matter has been launched.
Some 500 women are killed each year in Pakistan at the hands of family members over perceived damage to "honor" that can involve eloping, fraternizing with men or any other infraction against conservative values relating to women.
In most cases, the victim is a woman and the killer is a relative who escapes punishment by seeking forgiveness for the crime from family members.
Under the new law, relatives can forgive convicts in the case of a death sentence, but they would still have to face a mandatory life sentence.
