ISLAMABAD (Daily Dunya) – Acquittal plea of a suspect, who was arrested for uploading girl’s pictures on social networking website Facebook, has been rejected.

Sources told that cyber crime wing of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) lodged the case against Zain on the request of Uzma however, the suspect’s acquittal plea was also dismissed on the demand of the plaintiff.

Last year, the National Assembly approved the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Bill 2015 after the Senate had unanimously adopted. Government officials said internet restrictions under the new law are needed to ensure security against growing threats, such as terrorism.

The law also carries a penalty of three years for "spoofing".

More than 30 million of Pakistan’s 190 million people use the internet, mainly on mobile telephones, according to digital rights organization Bytes for All.
