PCB imposes three-month ineligibility on Imran Butt over anti-doping violations
Imran accepted the violations saying he had no intent to cheat, said PCB
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) imposed three-month ineligibility on domestic cricketer Imran Khan over violations of the anti-doping rules, the board said in its press release on Saturday.
PCB said, “Under the PCB Anti-Doping Rules 2016 (“PCB Rules”), a three (03) month period of ineligibility has been imposed on Cricketer, Imran Butt pursuant to his request for an “Agreed Sanction”.”
Imran Butt had been provisionally suspended after being tested positive with a prohibited substance in the sample collected from dope test during the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2017 match between Islamabad and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in the capital. PCB charged the domestic player of two anti-doping violations.
In reply, Imran accepted that he had committed the violations saying he didn’t do anything intentionally and had no intent to cheat.
He will remain provisionally suspended for three months and the ban will expire on February 6, 2018.
“PCB has a zero tolerance policy towards doping in cricket and hopes that in future cricketers will exercise utmost care to ensure that no Prohibited Substance enters their bodies,” PCB Chairman Najam Sethi told.
