Security improved in Pakistan, chances of ICC event in future: ICC CEO
He said that security is not Pakistan's concern only but the world's
LAHORE (Dunya News) – International Cricket Council chief executive David Richardson has said on Wednesday (September 13) that security situation in Pakistan have improved. During the talk, he gave an indication that Pakistan could host a ICC event in future.
“ICC events till 2023 already decided. I think Pakistan, in the last two years has made tremendous strides in improving the security situation. It is a long process and an early stepping stone. Let’s get through this tour and have other teams touring Pakistan,” Richardson added.
Richardson addressed a joint press conference with Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi today in Lahore ahead of the second World XI Vs Pakistan Twenty20International.
He said that security is not Pakistan’s concern only but the world’s.
Richardson said that ICC is focusing towards having Pakistan Super League organised in Pakistan. the ICC executive also said that there are chances of an international ICC event to happen in Pakistan if processes go fine henceforth.
He expressed his happiness over visiting Pakistan for the second time.
The ICC chief acknowledged cricket board s efforts in revival of the international cricket in Pakistan.
He cited tensions for no Pakistan-India series so far, adding that the political pressure forced them not to include any Indian player in World XI squad.
The ICC executive thanked the people of Pakistan and the media for a successful event. He said that winning Champions Trophy 2017 helped Pakistan in bringing home international cricket.
On the occasion, Sethi said that PCB would organise international matches in Karachi as well. He said that the board is about to sign a pact with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for construction of an academy in the province.
While talking about some of the ex-cricketers not attending the matches, Najam Sethi said that invitations were dispatched to all of the former players.
