New Zealand were 64 for the loss of two wickets after 15 overs

CARDIFF (Dunya News) - In the 6th Match of ICC Champions Trophy 2017, it’s the host England that will take on another stronger team in Group A i.e. New Zealand at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.

New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to field first while opting to play with the same team that played against the world champions Aussie side in the last rain-affected match.

New Zealand Innings

Overs 15, Score 64/2

New Zealand had to face an earlier than early blow in the shape of Luke Ronchi who was cleaned up by Ball of the fourth ball of the first over of the innings.

New Zealand were forced to be on back foot by some brilliant bowling from the English pacers.

JT Ball and MA Wood were taking full advantage of the ideal home conditions as the kiwi batsmen were finding it hard to score boundary in the early overs.

With not even a single boundary being hit, New Zealand were 10 for the loss of one wicket in 5 overs.

Guptil chose JT Ball for the first punishment of the day as a perfect on-drive whistled away for a boundary of the first ball of seventh over.



Of the second last ball, it was again Guptil who cuts it fine for a boundary yet again.

In the next over, it was the skipper Williamson who flicked it away of the bowling of Wood for four more.

It was first Guptil who hammered one away for a boundary of the first delivery for four more and later on, Williamson’s glorious timing shot resulted in fetching a boundary in JT Ball’s over.

New Zealand were 40 for the loss of one wicket after 10 overs.

Plunkett went away for 11 runs in the thirteenth over that also included 4 leg byes.



The dangerous Stokes came charging in as he removed Guptil in the fourteenth over who was caught neatly by Root at fifth slip.

New Zealand were 64 for the loss of two wickets after 15 overs.

England Innings

Over 49.3, Score 310 (all out) 

Mitchell Santner was introduced again to the attack in 36th over as he bowled rather a good over while conceding four runs.

Unlucky for Stokes as he wasn’t been able to complete his half-century while being caught by Milne of the bowling of Boult in thirt eighth over after scoring 48 runs.

Moen Ali came to bat to join Butler.

England were 221 for the loss of five wickets after 40 overs.



Ali took charge in forty first over as lofted one over midwicket of the bowling of Anderson for a maximum. However, the left arm batsman was caught brilliantly at short fine leg by Boult after he scored 12 runs.

A wicket and 15 runs came of Anderson’s over including 4 leg byes.

Buttler s first boundary came in 43rd over as the top edge flew to the boundary for four more.

Rashid also decided to take charge as the ball races towards the boundary after a fine touch from his bat.

In the same over, Adil’s innings came to an end as he was trapped leg before wicket by Santner after scoring 12 runs.



England were 260 for the loss of seven wickets after 44 overs.

Butler opted to take charge once more as a glorious shot of his bat raced past deep backward square for four more.

In the next over, a sort of width provided by Boult was easily put away by Butler for a maximum.

Milne also got some punishment in the next over as first it was Plunkett who hit him down the ground for a boundary and he was brutally hammered away for a huge six over long-off by Butler of the last ball.



Plunkett hit another one out of the work in the second last over for a maximum as he chose Milne for punishment this time.

Plunkett got out of the last ball of 49th over as a top edge of his bat fell safely into Southee’s hands.

Southee took wickets of consecutive balls in the last over as he removed Wood and JT Ball one after another.

England were all out for 310 in 49.3 overs.

Overs 35, Score 198/4

Both the batsmen were rotating the strike at regular intervals in an effort to maintain the strike rate.

It was in the eighteenth over when Joe Root chose Santher for some punishment as he lofted one over a long-on for a huge six while a paddle-swap of the second last ball resulted in a fetching a boundary.

England were 97 for the loss of one wicket after 18 overs.

Not a good start for Neesham as an edge of Root’s bat ran down towards third man boundary for four more.



A lot of drama was witnessed in Milne’s over that was 21st of the innings as Root slammed him for a boundary towards backward point for four more. Of the second last ball, it was Hales who hit one down the ground for a huge maximum.

Milne came strongly while cleaning up Hales who departed after scoring 56 runs.

Morgan announced himself to the crease as he immediately hit a boundary of Boult’s loose delivery and fetching four runs in the process.

England were 125 for the loss of two wickets after 23 overs with skipper and Root on the crease.

Morgan took the charge in 24th over as he thumped Boult towards leg side as the ball beautifully towards the fence for four more.



The skipper looked promising however a fine edge of his bat fell straight into keeper’s gloves as he departed after scoring a quick innings of 13 runs.

Root scored a brilliant boundary in the next over.

Stokes as usual was looking aggressive as he lofted a drive over long-on for huge six of Anderson.

In the next over, a glorious shot of the front foot fetched four runs for Stokes.

England were 156 for 3 after 28 overs.

Stokes chose Neesham in the thirtieth over as he muscled one away for a boundary towards long-off.

It seemed like Stokes was enjoying the width provided by Neesham as he powerfully struck yet again in the next over for four more.



Joe Root departed in the thirty fourth over after played a brilliant knock of 64 runs.

Meanwhile, Stokes was cruising along as he thumped Milne towards mid-off for four.

England were 198 for the loss of four wickets after 35 overs.

Overs 15, England 78/1

Roy as usual started the innings in his own style as he crunched one towards the cover of Southee’s first over.

Hales chose a ball from Boult in the second over to hammer it through point for four more.

England were 14 for no loss after the first three overs.



It was in the fourth over when Hales decided to cut loose as he lofted a ball from Boult over square leg for a maximum.

Southee bowled a brilliant fifth over as only a single came of it.

England were 27 for no loss after six overs.

Hales took full advantage of the width provided by Southee as he pummeled it away over point for four. 


Meanwhile, the umpires after 6.4 overs halt the play to observe a national minute s silence for the victims of the London attack on Saturday.


The skipper opted to introduce Milne to the attack who proved him right while cleaning up Roy who departed after 13 runs.

Southee bowled a good ninth over as only four runs came of it.



England were 41 for the loss of one wicket after 9 overs.

Hales muscled away a quick delivery from Milne as he loft it over midwicket for four more.

Hales looked promising as Joe Root was also playing in his usual style while rotating the strike at regular intervals.



After 12 overs, the run rate was 5 runs per over with England losing Jason Roy during the proceedings.

Root decided to take some risk as he launched one from Santner down the ground for the second six of the innings.

Anderson bowled the first initial three overs as only 15 runs came of it.

England were 78 for the loss of one wicket after 15 overs.
