Rumman Raees is expected to replace the pacer after his ankle injury

(Web Desk) - Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 due to injury. He suffered from an ankle injury during big India match.

Sources told that Rumman Raees will be included in the squad replacing the injured pacer. The 25-year-old bowler has played for Islamabad United in Pakistan Super League (PSL) and made his debut against West Indies at Abu Dhabi, last year. Other options include Mohammad Abbas.

Left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz contributed to the team’s loss against India in Champions Trophy by giving 87 runs, in 8.4 overs, with not a single wicket. He was hospitalised after detection of foot injury and doctors have recommended him a one-week rest before coming on the field.

It is to be mentioned here that Wahab Riaz was picked over Junaid Khan by team coach Mickey Arthur who also took the blame for selecting him.

During the game, Riaz, who was already sustaining an injury in his knee, was sent to the hospital for medical assistance.

Earlier, India captain Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh made Pakistan pay for fluffing catches with quickfire fifties as the holders launched their Champions Trophy title-defence with a 124-run thrashing of their arch-rivals at Edgbaston on Sunday.

After India made 319 for three in 48 overs, the third rain stoppage of the match left Pakistan with a revised target of 289 in 41 overs when play resumed in bright sunshine.

Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed said he had "no regrets" over his decision to field first.

"We were in control for 40 overs but we lost the plot in the last eight overs," the wicket-keeper added after what was the opening Group B match for both the Asian giants in a tournament featuring the world s top eight one-day international teams.

"The worrying thing for me, and it has been for a period of time, is we just do the basics wrong," said Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur.
