Basit Ali resigns from PCB posts following slap incident

KARACHI (Daily Dunya) – Basit Ali has resigned from both Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official posts after the slap incident with Mahmood Hamid.

Basit Ali said he is resigning as coach of Pakistan women cricket team and Chief Selector of junior team with immediate effect.

Basit Ali had slapped former Pakistan cricket player Mahmood Hamid earlier this week because Mahmood Hamid had criticized him for occupying more than one official posts of PCB.

After the slap mishap, PCB was about to sack Basit Ali but he resigned himself owing to the possibility of being fired.

Basit Ali was also strongly criticized by everybody on hitting Mahmood Hamid and he ultimately had to apologize from the former cricketer.

According to sources, Basit Ali made a phone call to Mahmood Hamid, asked for forgiveness and expressed regret for what he had done.

Basit Ali said that he was angry on Mahmood Hamid’s statement about him which he gave on a private television (TV) channel.

He further added that although Mahmood Hamid is his junior and he should not have said such things against him, but his own behavior became more aggressive afterwards on which he is deeply regretful.
