Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 79 runs; its their first victory over Pakistan in an ODI since 1999

DHAKA: (Dunya News) - Bangladesh have defeated Pakistan in a history-making game as it has been Bangladesh s first victory over Pakistan in a One-Day International (ODI) since World Cup 1999. Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 79 runs on Friday after scoring 329 runs in the first innings.

Pakistan started under pressure as 330 was never going to be an easy chase for this team consisting of mostly youngsters. Though Pakistan looked in a good shape and stayed in contest for around 30 overs but the side could never build up big partnerships that were vital for chasing a total as big as this.

Skipper Azhar Ali scored 72, opening for the team along with Sarfraz Ahmed, who scored 24 off 32 balls. Mohammad Hafeez was run out for just 4 runs while trying a difficult single. Haris Sohail batted well for his 51 off 64 balls but Azhar Ali lost his wicket on the other hand. Debutant Rizwan joined Haris on the wicket. But their partnership at the wicket was short-lived as Pakistan lost Haris Sohail on 175.

Rizwan was impressive but Fawad Alam couldn t stand long as he popped one up to Soumya Sarkar off Sunny s bowling and threw his wicket away. Saad Nasim went for a duck and faced just 4 balls. Wahab Riaz tried but was bowled out by Taskin for 8 and just 5 uns later, Rizwan also laid his arms down. He scored 67 runs off 58 balls.

After that, however, it was just a formality. Junaid Khan was run out without facing a ball while Saeed Ajmal was LBW 2 balls later.

And as the commentator said, Bangladesh finally broke free from the shackles that had held them back for 16 years.

Earlier: Pakistan still need 100 off 43 balls with 6 wickets already down

Pakistan has already lost 6 wickets for 230 and there is 100 runs to make off just 43 balls. Bangladesh can clearly sense the victory here. With all the recognized batsmen already back in the pavilion, the entire burden is on the shoulders of debutant Rizwan and bowling all-rounder Wahab Riaz. In chase of what appears to be a near impossible chance, the two are still struggling to hold Bengalis from registering their first victory over Pakistan in 16 years. Last time they had defeated Pakistan in a One-Day International (ODI) was in the World Cup 1999.

Earlier: Saad Nasim falls for a duck. Pakistan 217-6. Pakistan requires 113 runs with four wickets remaining

Pakistan tour to Bangladesh has kicked off on Friday, with the first match being held at Mirpur Stadium Dhaka.

Bangladesh scored record 329 runs in their allotted overs.

The host team won the toss and elected to bat first.

Opener Tamim Iqbal scored 132 off 135 balls while wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim hit 106 off 77 balls as Bangladesh scored 329 runs in their innings.

Off-spinner Saeed Ajmal, returning after an eight-month absence due to an illegal bowling action, was hammered for 74 runs in 10 wicket less overs while part-timers Harris Sohail and Saad Nasim also gave away 62 runs in combined 6 overs.

Left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz was pick of the bowlers, claiming four wickets.

Pakistan s top order saw some changes as Captain Azhar Ali opened the batting with wicket-keeper batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed.

The men in green have scored 37 runs off their 7 overs with Azhar(17*) and Sarfaraz (16*) standing at the crease.
