PERTH: (Web Desk) –South Africa defeated Australia in the 2nd One-Day International (ODI) by 3 wickets in Perth on Sunday. Although Aussies were all out for 154 on the bouncy track, they almost got the Protease as 7 of their men had been sent back to the pavilion before they were able to chase down the meager total.
Marsh was the only batsman to have really taken a start from the Australian side. He scored 67 runs off 88 balls with 3 boundaries and 2 sixes. George Bailey also scored 25 runs off 45 balls before getting caught by Faf du Plesis on Philander’s ball. Other than these two, none of the batsmen from Australian side could make any serious difference. Warner (0), Finch (8), Watson (11), Smith (10), Wade (19), Maxwell (0), Johnson (3) and Coulter-Nile (2) portrayed a sorry card for the Kangaroos.
South Africa also started the innings in a shaky manner. Q de Cock was gone for 4 while Hashmi Amla was taken out by Johnson for 10. Rossouw and du Plesis stood together for a while but Maxwell got Rossouw as well when he was batting for 30. AB de Villiers scored 48 runs off just 41 balls. South Africa was 141 for 6 when Philander joined Miller but he was taken out by Johnson without scoring anything. However, Miller had looted the precious 12 runs before his wicket and he saw the Protease through as Dayle Steyn truck a boundary in the 28th over.
Morne Morkel was awarded the Man of the Match award for his 5 wickets for just 21 runs. South Africa has now leveled the 5-match series 1 – 1.
