Surrey signs South Africa captain Graeme Smith

Graeme Smith has signed a three-year contract with English County side Surrey.

He has played 102 tests for South Africa, and installed as captain with immediate effect.The 31-year-old Smith will join the club in March, after leading South Africa in a home series against Pakistan.Surrey chairman Richard Thompson says on Thursday, I believe this a hugely important signing for Surrey. It demonstrates our ambition and commitment for the future.The club has been looking for a new captain since Rory Hamilton-Brown stepped down from the role after teammate and close friend Tom Maynard died in June.
