Shanghai, Hong Kong stocks shed gains at break

HONG KONG (AFP) - Shanghai stocks were slightly down and Hong Kong flat at the break Tuesday, as investors sold heavyweight banking shares after previous gains, dealers said.

The Hang Seng Index was flat at 22,926.87 points, while the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.52 percent, or 16.25 points, to 3,108.95.

But the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China s second exchange, rose 0.49 percent, or 9.94 points, to 2,033.18 on hopes the government will soon launch a scheme to link trading between the Shenzhen and Hong Kong bourses.
