Bad news for skin-collectors: Leather prices fall in int'l market

Prices of skins of sacrificial animals have also dropped in Pakistan due to fall in leather prices

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Bad news struck the skin-collectors on Saturday as leather prices fell in the international market, leading to a drop in the prices of the skins of sacrificial animals in Pakistan as well. Social work organizations are expected to suffer a loss in selling the skins due to the latest development, reported Dunya News.

Skins of sacrificial animals are a major source of income for the welfare organizations on Eid ul-Azha but the income is expected to suffer as skin prices have dropped this season around 50 to 60 percent.

Skins of bulls and cows are being sold at Rs. 1500 to 1600 each while that of goat is being sold at Rs. 300. Camel skin is being sold at Rs. 400 each. Last year, the collective income from the skin selling had shored up to Rs. 12 billion but this year the total income is expected to remain at around Rs. 7 billion.
