Jemima Khan fined £1,000 in UK for speeding and failing to respond to police notice; she accepted liability, citing renovation work caused delayed response.
LONDON (Web Desk) – A British court has slapped Jemima Goldsmith, the former wife of Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, with £1,000 fine for violating traffic laws.
According to international media reports, the fine was imposed after a vehicle registered in her name was found exceeding the speed limit. She was also penalised for failing to respond in time to a police notice seeking details of the driver.
Under British law, failure to respond to such a notice constitutes a separate offence, making the vehicle’s registered owner legally responsible.
The total penalty amounts to approximately £1,000, which converts to more than Rs370,000 in Pakistani currency.
During court proceedings, Jemima Khan stated that renovation work was underway at her home at the time and that the police letter had been misplaced by construction workers. She said she was unaware of the notice until October and immediately completed and returned the required form once it came to her attention.
She further explained that she was not driving the vehicle at the time; rather, a builder working at her home had been using it. However, since the car was registered in her name, legal responsibility rested with her.
According to media reports, she acknowledged her mistake in court and said she accepted the fine if imposed in accordance with the law.
Jemima Khan was married to former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan in 1995 until their divorce in 2004. The couple has two sons.
