DHAKA (Dunya News) - Voting is underway across Bangladesh amid heightened political activity, as Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman warned of a strong reaction in case of alleged election rigging.

After casting his vote, Rahman stated that if allegations of electoral fraud prove serious, “no one will be spared.” He urged citizens to come out of their homes, exercise their democratic right, and contribute to nation-building.

He further said that if Jamaat-e-Islami secures victory, the country could witness the formation of its first Islamist-led government.

Meanwhile, National Citizen Party chief Nahid Islam, after voting, said his party seeks only free and fair elections. “We are not concerned about winning or losing; what matters is that the elections are transparent and independent,” he said.

Nahid added that he was casting his vote for the first time in his life and expressed hope that if voters are allowed to exercise their choice freely, his party would emerge victorious. He appealed to the public to vote without fear.

In a related development, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman cast his vote at Gulshan Model High School in Dhaka. He returned to the country from the United Kingdom after 17 years in exile.

It is noteworthy that Generation Z has now emerged as the largest voting bloc in Bangladesh.
