OIC urges international community to escalate efforts for resolution of Kashmir dispute
Denial of religious rights constitutes a serious violation of international human rights law: OIC
JEDDAH (Dunya News) - The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has urged the international community, including the United Nations Organisation (UNO) and other relevant bodies to increase efforts for a negotiated settlement of Jammu and Kashmir dispute on the basis of relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
In a tweet, the OIC also urged Indian authorities to ensure protection of rights of Kashmiri Muslims and the exercise of their religious rights.
It said denial of religious rights constitutes a serious violation of international human rights law and is an affront to Muslims across the world.
Meanwhile, Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation strongly condemned the ongoing security lockdown, curfew and communications blackout in the occupied Kashmir by the Indian occupation forces.
According to a press release issued by IPHRC, these arbitrary and unjustified administrative measures have prevented Kashmiris from performing their religious rites, a blatant violation of the right to freedom of religion.
The Commission is further appalled by the worsening humanitarian situation arising due to long curfews and closure of economic and social activities, which are causing severe hardships for the patients to reach hospitals and general population to replenish food and fuel supplies.
