(Web Desk) – A 32-year-old man was arrested by Mumbai police on Sunday morning for allegedly harassing and threatening to kidnap Sara Tendulkar – the daughter of former Indian skipper Sachin Tendulkar.

Debkumar Maity, who is being reported as mentally unstable by Indian media,  was arrested by a team of Mumbai police in coordination with East Midnapore district in Bengal. Maity had been moved to Mumbai for further investigation.

According to the Hindustan Times, a member of the Mumbai police team who made the arrest said the accused had made several phone calls to the landline number at Tendulkar’s residence to Sara proposing her.

“He also made several lewd comments during his phone calls and even went to the extent of threatening to kidnap her if she rejected his proposal of marriage,” said the police.

A complaint was filed at the Bandra police station in Mumbai after which the Mumbai police got in touch with the West Bengal police to track him down.

According to the police, Maity said that he had seen Sara in the pavilion of a cricket stadium in Mumbai and had gotten hold of the number through one of his relatives. He not only admitted that he had made several calls but had also argued that there was nothing wrong in his ‘desire to marry Sara’, with HT reporting that Maity referred to Sachin Tendulkar as his ‘father-in-law’.

Maity is a college dropout and is known as an artist in the area, reported the HT. His family has claimed that Maity was suffering from mental depression and was also under treatment.
