DARWIN (Dunya News) – Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud produced a devastating spell as Australia were bowled out for 198 in the first match of the series being played in Darwin.
Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. After an opening partnership of 45 runs, Australia lost four wickets in quick succession at a total of 74.
Jake Weatherald was dismissed for 23, Travis Head scored 22, Cameron Green made 13, while Marnus Labuschagne was dismissed for one run.
Steve Smith and Alex Carey then put together a 55-run partnership to steady the Australian innings. However, Carey was dismissed for 19 at a total of 129.
Smith held one end together, but wickets continued to fall at the other end, and the entire Australian team returned to the pavilion for 198 runs.
Steve Smith was the top scorer with 71 runs, while Beau Webster scored 12, captain Pat Cummins made nine, Nathan Lyon scored seven and Mitchell Starc was dismissed for one.
For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud claimed six wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain took two wickets each.
This was only the second occasion when Bangladesh fast bowlers had taken all 10 wickets in an innings.
Hasan Mahmud’s figures of six wickets for 55 runs are the third-best figures by a Bangladesh fast bowler in Test cricket.
