BIRMINGHAM (Dunya News) – India defeated Pakistan by 64 runs in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 opener at Edgbaston on Sunday.

A fighting half-century from Smriti Mandhana helped India women post a competitive total of 170/6 against Pakistan.

In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 106 runs. Muneeba scored 41 runs.

Deepti Sharma picked up 5-wicket haul.

Batting first, India got off to a mixed start as Shafali Verma smashed a six off the first ball but was dismissed in the same over by Sadia Iqbal. Early blows continued as Jemimah Rodrigues fell for just one, leaving India struggling at 18-2.

Mandhana then steadied the innings, joining captain Harmanpreet Kaur in a crucial 91-run partnership that shifted momentum India’s way. The duo took the side past 50 in the ninth over and later crossed the 100-run mark with controlled aggression.

Mandhana went on to score a fluent 68 off 44 balls, including nine fours and two sixes, bringing up her 34th T20I fifty before being dismissed by Rameen Shamim. Harmanpreet added 36 off 35 balls before falling to Fatima Sana.

In the final overs, Richa Ghosh (34 off 17) and Deepti Sharma boosted the total with aggressive hitting as India surged past 150. Pakistan’s bowlers shared the wickets, with Sadia Iqbal and Fatima Sana taking two each.
