Summary PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s potential India visit for ICC board meeting and IPL final awaits PM Shahbaz Sharif’s approval; discussions include WTC format and team inclusions
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A decision on whether Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will travel to India is expected this week.
Sources said Naqvi is likely to meet Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad after returning from Iran.
The meeting will reportedly discuss the ICC’s invitation for Naqvi to attend the ICC Board Meeting on May 30–31 in Ahmedabad, India, and to watch the IPL final scheduled on May 31.
Naqvi’s participation in the ICC meeting and the IPL final is subject to approval from the Patron-in-Chief, PM Shahbaz Sharif.
Last week, Mohsin Naqvi received an invitation to attend the events in India.
The ICC meetings will take place in two phases later this month. The ICC Chief Executives’ Committee meeting will be held virtually on May 21, while the board meeting is scheduled for May 30 and 31 in Ahmedabad.
The meeting is expected to include discussions on proposed changes to the format of the ICC World Test Championship. Under the current structure, every Test series must consist of at least two matches.
The ICC board will also discuss the possible inclusion of Zimbabwe national cricket team, Ireland national cricket team and Afghanistan national cricket team in the World Test Championship cycle.
