QUETTA (Dunya News) - Balochistan Sports Department has arranged sports competitions in the province in connection with Pakistan Day.

The contests continue in full swing in the province as contestants are participating in the games enthusiastically.

The department also started futsal tournament, wushu tournament and basketball competitions. The futsal tournament started at QDA Ground in Satellite Town, Quetta.

Pakistan Peoples Party leader MPA Liaquat Ali Lahri was the chief guest of the opening ceremony of the tournament.

Basketball matches were held at the Pakistan Sports Board Quetta Centre. The tournament was inaugurated by Balochistan Olympic Association General Secretary Sher Muhammad Tareen.

Wushu competitions were held at Ayub Sports Complex Martial Arts Gymnasium, whereas six teams from Quetta participated in basketball competitions.

As many 35 athletes from Quetta participated in wushu competitions in seven different weight categories. Mir Liaquat Ali Lahri, as a chief guest of the futsal tournament, inaugurated the event.

On this occasion, the members of the organising committee, Abdul Baqi and Muhammad Sadiq, were present, besides a large number of spectators.

On the opening ceremony, talking to the journalists, Liaquat Ali Lahri said the sports festival was welcoming gesture to mark Pakistan Day on March 23.

“This will provide people with opportunities for sports and games. Balochistan government is trying to promote sports and create opportunities for sportsmen.

“The government will ensure all possible sports facilities to the youngsters of the province so that they can avoid the scourge of drugs and make their country and province eminent and famous in the world,” the MPA concluded.

The futsal competitions will continue till March 22, whereas the finals of wushu will be held on Wednesday (today) at the Martial Arts Gymnasium Ayub Sports Complex.
