World number two Maria Sharapova played an exhibition match against fellow Russian and world number four Vera Zvonareva in Taipei on Thursday (September 22) and met fans in Taiwan.The two players signed tennis balls then hit them into the crowd before a singles match in which Sharapova beat Zvonareva 6-3 and 6-4.When asked about her loss in the third round of US Open, Sharapova remains confident about her upcoming performance.Of course it is always disappointing to lose earlier than you want to at a grand slam stage, but Ive had a much more successful year this year than Ive had in the past, all in all it just gives me more confidence looking towards the end of the year and also beginning of next, she said.Next stop on the Tour for Sharapova and Zvonareva is the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo starting on Sept 25.Organizer said approximately 4000 fans watched the game on Thursday, and more are expected on October 1 when Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer play another exhibition match in Taiwan.
