KARACHI (Dunya News) - MQM Chairman Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has said new administrative units is necessary for stability of the country.

Talking to the North Nazimabad Residents Committee here on Sunday, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that the demand for the establishment of new provinces is not a new stance of the MQM but has been present since the time when the MQM was a student movement.

He said that in view of Pakistan's growing population, the number of administrative units should be increased, because improving the administrative structure according to the needs of the people is essential for the stability of the country.

The MQM-Pakistan leader said that Pakistan was established as a result of the struggle and sacrifices of our ancestors. They came to Quaid-e-Azam's Pakistan where Karachi was the capital of the country, however, later the change of the capital and changes in the administrative structure created problems regarding Karachi.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui claimed that Karachi was made part of Sindh without consulting its people and that when the provinces were restored, no referendum or voting was held in this regard.

He said that the demand for the establishment of new provinces has never been limited to Karachi or the Muhajir province. A Saraiki province can be formed where the Saraiki population lives, and a Hazara province can also be formed, however, there are various questions regarding the establishment of a province for the Muhajir population.

He said that there is a need to review the current provincial structure and distribution of powers. The four provinces were established on linguistic grounds, which is why the concept of a common Pakistani identity is facing difficulties.
