Summary Says comparisons between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan govts must take into account ground realities, security challenges and ongoing counterterrorism efforts in both provinces.

QUETTA (Dunya News) - Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has stressed that national security must remain above political differences, urging political leaders not to sacrifice the state for political interests amid the ongoing fight against terrorism.

In a message posted on social media, Bugti said he held Maulana Fazlur Rehman in high regard, describing their personal relationship as one based on respect and acknowledging the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief’s political insight and experience.

However, he said comparisons between the governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan must take into account the ground realities, security challenges and ongoing counterterrorism efforts in both provinces.

Bugti noted that Maulana Fazlur Rehman and his party had also been targeted in terrorist attacks, expressing hope that the JUI-F chief would consider the state’s efforts against terrorism and the sacrifices of security personnel while commenting on the sensitive national issue.

The chief minister highlighted what he described as political unity in Balochistan, saying the provincial government had taken opposition parties into confidence on counterterrorism strategies and key decisions related to security.

He said the government was pursuing a policy of bringing all parliamentary parties on board despite political differences.

He emphasised that counterterrorism was not merely a matter of political statements or claims but a collective responsibility of the state and the nation. Paying tribute to security personnel, including officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army and other security agencies, he said their sacrifices carried immense human costs for the families of those killed.

Bugti warned that an ambiguous stance on terrorism or disregard for facts could undermine national interests. He maintained that sustainable peace was essential for achieving development, public welfare and economic stability.

While acknowledging that criticism of political parties and governments was a democratic right, Bugti urged political leaders to consider the security challenges facing the state, the sacrifices of security forces and the suffering of families affected by terrorism.

He called for national unity, responsible political dialogue and cooperation with state institutions to establish lasting peace.
