KARACHI (Dunya News) - The judicial commission investigating the death of Mir Raza has submitted its inquiry report to the Sindh government, leaving the provincial administration to decide whether the findings should be made public.
Additional Secretary of the Sindh Home Department Javed Abro received the report, which comprises four volumes and was submitted in a sealed envelope, according to sources. The report and its covering letter are addressed to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
Speaking after receiving the report, Abro said the commission’s findings had been handed over to the government and that any further action would be decided by the provincial administration. He added that although the commission’s proceedings were held in open court, the report itself had been delivered in a sealed envelope.
According to details of the inquiry, statements from 49 people were recorded as part of the proceedings. The commission held 15 hearings and recorded two statements through video link. It was constituted on August 24 to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s death.
Mir Raza’s body was found in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area on July 29. His death triggered prolonged protests, while an initial post-mortem examination was followed by an exhumation and a second examination.
The commission’s report is expected to shed light on the circumstances of his death, including whether he was murdered or died by suicide. However, its findings have not yet been made public.
The Sindh government will decide whether to release the report publicly, while Mir Raza’s family continues to demand the formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the case.
