KARACHI (Dunya News) - Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has described the party’s recent rally in Karachi as a “referendum,” claiming that a large turnout despite what he called multiple obstacles had demonstrated the city’s political strength.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Siddiqui said hurdles had been created for the MQM-P at every step since August 22, but residents nevertheless turned out in large numbers for the rally.
He congratulated party workers, saying the demonstration had “defeated several conspiracies.”
Siddiqui said Karachi’s residents had reaffirmed their political identity and argued that no rally or march of such scale had taken place in Pakistan’s history.
He called for more administrative units to accommodate the country’s growing population, noting that Karachi accounts for around 57 percent of Sindh’s population.
He also criticized the feudal system and hereditary politics, saying the era of family-based governments should end.

Siddiqui demanded an investigation into Sindh’s 18-year governance through a judicial commission and urged the courts to take notice.
The MQM-P leader reiterated the party’s calls for additional administrative units, greater devolution of powers and an end to what he termed the “artificial majority” controlling urban Sindh.
He said the party would continue its political struggle despite future challenges.
