LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has sought a comprehensive report on fire safety arrangements at government hospitals across the province.
The chief minister directed authorities to submit details of fire safety measures at hospitals in all districts by August 27.
She also ordered officials to assess emergency exit routes and ensure easy access to them in case of an emergency.
Maryam Nawaz directed officials to inspect the emergency exits in consultation with Rescue teams and complete work on fire hydrants at hospitals within seven days.
She also ordered the construction of fire hydrants around all major government hospitals across Punjab.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Housing Department, a list of 57 government hospitals has been prepared for the first phase of the initiative.
The measures come amid growing concern over fire safety at hospitals following a recent fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, in which 14 newborns were killed.
