MUZAFFARABAD (Web Desk) - Newly elected members of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly took oath after elections were held for eight reserved seats.
Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar administered the oath to 46 lawmakers after the reserved-seat elections completed the composition of the assembly.
Elections were held for five seats reserved for women, with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) securing two seats and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) winning three.
PML-N candidates Seharish Qamar, Maryam Zaman and Maryam Idrees were elected on women’s reserved seats, while PPP candidates Farzana Yaqoob and Zobia Khursheed also secured seats.
On the seat reserved for religious scholars and spiritual leaders, PML-N’s Pir Mazhar Saeed Shah was elected. PML-N’s Barrister Iftikhar Gilani won the technocrat seat, while Abdul Rehman Arain secured the seat reserved for overseas Kashmiris.
Following the reserved-seat elections, the PML-N has won 31 seats in the assembly, while the PPP has secured 14. After an alliance with the PML-N on one seat held by the Awami Dast-o-Bazu, the PML-N’s strength has risen to 32 seats.
With the house now completed, the newly elected lawmakers took their oath, administered by Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar.
The government formation process is being carried out without seven members because elections have not yet been held in Poonch and Sudhnoti.
