LAHORE (Dunya News) – Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan on Friday called for national unity, collective responsibility and economic self-reliance to make Pakistan a strong and prosperous country.
He was speaking at a flag-hoisting ceremony held at Governor House Lahore to mark Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
Representatives of the American, Chinese and Iranian consulates, along with Ben Warrington, head of the UK mission, attended the ceremony and joined the governor in a cake cutting ceremony to celebrate Independence Day. School children presented national songs, while the governor interacted with the children.
A special prayer was also offered for the country’s progress, prosperity, stability and security.
The governor congratulated the nation on Independence Day and paid tribute to the people who were celebrating the occasion across the country.
He said Pakistan was a divine blessing achieved through the immense sacrifices and prolonged struggle of the country’s forefathers. He stressed that Independence Day demanded unity and solidarity among the nation.
“Everyone must play a positive role for the development, prosperity and stability of Pakistan,” he said.
Sardar Saleem Haider said hostile elements were seeking to weaken the country through their nefarious designs. He paid tribute to the armed forces and security personnel for their sacrifices in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and also honoured the martyrs of the security forces.
He said Independence Day should be celebrated with greater enthusiasm so that the younger generation could understand the difficulties and sacrifices through which Pakistan was created.
The governor congratulated the nation and armed forces for standing united like a solid wall to strengthen the country’s defence. He recalled that Pakistan had once been considered too small to face a much larger country and army, but the nation’s resilience and unity had earned Pakistan respect around the world.
He expressed confidence that Pakistan would emerge as a major economic power through collective efforts.
“We will break the begging bowl and make Pakistan stand on its own feet,” he said, stressing that the country possessed abundant resources and had the potential to achieve economic self-reliance.
The governor expressed hope that Pakistan would continue to remain strong and prosperous and said the country, which he described as a divine gift, would endure forever.
