Summary Leaders discussed parliamentary affairs, matters of national importance and coordination between state institutions
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The leadership of the Senate and National Assembly on Saturday agreed to strengthen institutional coordination and cooperation to support a stable and effective parliamentary democratic system.
Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani held a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah at his residence, according to a statement issued by the Senate Secretariat.
The meeting covered parliamentary affairs, matters of national importance and coordination between state institutions.
Senate Chairman stressed that closer coordination between the two Houses was essential for strengthening democratic traditions and ensuring an effective parliamentary system.
NA speaker also called for greater institutional cooperation to facilitate effective legislation and better respond to public expectations.
The leaders discussed the overall situation in the country and agreed on the importance of prioritising the national interest, upholding the Constitution and promoting democratic stability.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to improving communication and mutual respect between the two Houses and further strengthening cooperation between the Senate and National Assembly.
The meeting came a day after Yousaf Raza Gilani inaugurated the upgraded Senate Secretariat complex at Parliament House.
Speaking at the ceremony, he said strong democratic institutions required modern systems, efficient infrastructure and a professional working environment. He described the upgrade as part of broader reforms aimed at improving the Secretariat’s performance and strengthening its ability to support Parliament in fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.
