LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab government has decided to take funds required for local government elections from the federal government.
According to sources, the Punjab government will send a formal letter to the federal government to provide the Election Commission with the expenses of the local government elections.

Following the amendment to Article 81 of the Constitution, the funds required for holding elections to the National Assembly, provincial assemblies, Senate and local governments have been included in the expenses charged to the Federal Consolidated Fund.
According to sources, the election expenses of the Election Commission can be paid from the federal treasury with constitutional protection, while separate approval from the general budget is not required for these expenses every year.
The Election Commission can also directly request funds for local government elections from the federal government.
Sources said that the Punjab government surrendered Rs540 billion to the federation in the current fiscal year's budget, while the Local Government Department had demanded Rs12billion for holding local government elections.
