KARACHI (Web Desk) – A judicial magistrate's court in Karachi East has approved a petition filed by the family of trader Mir Ali Raza seeking the exhumation of his body, directing the Sindh health secretary to constitute a medical board for the process.
The court had reserved its verdict after hearing arguments on the plea and later approved the request, ordering that the exhumation be carried out as soon as possible.
During the hearing, the petitioner's counsel argued that police could not object to the exhumation because the procedure would be conducted under the supervision of the police surgeon and the Medical Legal Officer (MLO).
The lawyer told the court that the police surgeon had identified several serious flaws in the post-mortem report, stating that no X-rays had been conducted and the actual cause of death had not been determined. He alleged that the report had been prepared largely on assumptions.
The court questioned how it could issue an order without first notifying the investigating officer. In response, the state prosecutor said the prosecution had no objection to the exhumation, adding that the matter involved the investigation of a human life.
The petitioner's counsel argued that issuing a notice to the investigating officer would only cause further delay.
After the prosecution formally raised no objection, the court approved the application and directed the health secretary to form a medical board and ensure that the exhumation process is completed at the earliest.
