Summary Islamabad High Court suspended NHA’s notification imposing 50% extra motorway toll tax for vehicles without M-Tag or low balance, stopping collection until further orders.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) — The Islamabad High Court has suspended a May 30, 2025 notification issued by the National Highway Authority regarding the collection of an additional 50 percent toll tax on motorways for vehicles without M-Tag or with insufficient balance.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir issued a two-page written order after hearing the petition, restraining the NHA from collecting the additional toll tax until further orders.
The petition was filed by Advocate Jalal Haider, who argued that motorists were being charged 50 percent extra toll tax due to the absence of an M-Tag or low balance, despite the NHA lacking legal authority to impose such charges.
The court issued notices to the NHA and other respondents, directing them to submit written replies by August 3.
The Islamabad High Court ruled that until further proceedings in the case, the National Highway Authority will not collect the additional toll tax.
